Suburbia, 1963. Wesley James (Murphy), a quiet, introverted man, has just moved into an up and coming neighborhood. Across the street live Bobby and Patrice Connor (Arnaud, Paquin) who are just about to round their five year mark of married life. Two doors to the left lives Deborah Carlisle (Lilly), a widow to an older man. But Wesley doesn’t know these things about his neighbors from introducing himself; he knows them from watching them. He watches all of this from afar, until the day Patrice knocks on his door with a Christmas gift. The two strike up a friendship and soon Wesley finds himself in a position he never thought he’d be in—at the mercy of the same two women he sees pulling Bobby apart at the seams. When Deborah catches him spying, she too, invites herself into his life and it’s up to him to decide if he might become the second man to choose Deborah—the lonely temptress—over Patrice—the lonely, quietly suffering wife.

aiden kelly (ackles) is a musician. he always has been, and he always will be. but there mere thought of going on without the love of his life, mina quinn (kelly), kills him. he still sees her on a daily basis, even though he knows she isn’t really there. they talk all the time, but she leaves when aiden asks her why she killed herself. his muse is gone, his purpose vanished, and he has nothing left to live for.

but when mina’s estranged brother jack (dornan) finds himself knocking on aiden’s door, asking for a place to stay, things change. jack encourages aiden to start playing again, though the thought of singing without mina by his side is all too painful. when aiden agrees to go back on tour, he hires jack as an assistant. together, the two form a bond that helps them let go of the past and look to the future.

charlie fitzsimmons (o’donnell) had the perfect life. he married his high school sweetheart, the beautiful, coveted leigh caraway (chriqui). he has an incredible job where day after day he gets once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. he’s happy, healthy, and is about to receive word that his wife, who was never expected to be able to have children, is pregnant. charlie’s living the time of his life, and nothing could get in the way.

but when the fitzsimmons’ are greeted by their new neighbor, the young, mysterious nicholas foster (bomer), things change. nicholas is living in the scenic massachusetts town to write a novel- or so he says. charlie becomes weary of his new neighbor, often seeing things a little strange going on in nicholas’ house. when charlie decides to investigate, it could ruin his entire life.

he begins to think nicholas is after his wife, and the young man does nothing to sway charlie’s thoughts. leigh becomes infuriated with charlie, upset that he could attack such an innocent man. but as charlie digs deeper and uncovers more and more about nicholas, he finds himself spiraling into the web of the wicked young man.
